Money Tree - only human
Money tree, money tree, where for art thou money tree?
I have searched for you high and low of late,
Ever elusive but I stay determined to the task.
I have been the seeker, faced the monster
and gone window to window looking for little signs.
Alas still you are not mine.
Money tree, money tree, where ever could you be?
The worries of my world weigh on my shoulders
Sleep vexes me, I flip and flop thoughts too dark and deep
I have seen the red, and counted the last few coins for bread
And gone over the numbers again in my head
Alas tree you are hard to find
Money tree, money tree, where did you go?
I have had seedlings before, quite delicate and small
But neglected they shrivelled and died
I have sacrificed, wailed, moaned and cried
And believe the mortgage is more mouthful than I can chew
Alas tree how I wish for thee
Money tree, money tree, where for art thou money tree?
The search is not over; I will track you and hunt you
In the meantime I’ll suck it up, be frugal and tight
And soldier on fighting the good financial fight
Alas tree your days are numbered

Random mumality thoughts - only human on humpday
I have been thinking about this post for most of the day, and still coming up blank i seem to have lost some of my blogging momentum in the last few months. I am blaming my busy life as a mummy, kindy drop offs and pick ups, swimming lessons for 4 yr old and 1 yr old on different days, grocery shopping, dishes mountains of washing, play dates, overdue library books that need returning. Dinners to make, always the toys that need picking up. Normal mumality. And now I'm making up words. Mumality, the real and every continuing list of crap that all mothers are doing. No matter what else is going on in their lives mumality is always happening. So here is a taste of the scattered thoughts of my mum head tonight.
Need to find (or beg my mum to make if cant find) another knitted fireman Sam type toy, Eli is overly attached to one of Flynn's night time buddy toys. Resulted in a crying fit from Eli tonight when he had to give said toy back to his brother at bedtime. Why oh why did they have to become so attached to a toy that is hand made by some nice old Nana type. I bought Fireman from a market stall from 'festival of the knob' (it takes place in Yorkeys Knob a suburb in cairns, great name. the post office there sells a tee shirt that reads yorkeys knob bigger than mobys dick, love it, love the name of the festival) Don't think i can wait for next festival, will try all local markets must find that Nana!!!!!
this is the pattern pic for said fireman toy jean greenhowe designs
still can't believe this is the toy they both desperatly want. I like that they love handmade things.
When oh when is that bulging cat going to have her kittens, am terrified that when she does go into labour its going to be middle of the night and i will be sleep deprive zombie... still at least i wont be the one delivering multiple babies. My heart goes out to you Griffin cat, good luck. How the hell am i going to keep 2 small children off those kittens? can i make a small kitty Alcatraz. not to self google cat labour so know what to expect.
why is my chest covered in gold glitter? again ...Eli, thanks bubba I am now little miss sparkle boobs.
crap i haven't attempted to do the dishes yet and it's 10 o'clock at night, do i do them? do i leave them? ughh?? keep writing
Need to sticky tape back together the cover of post man pat video, after children went on a ripping rampage. Must do this before i got to library, really hope i can stick it back together enough that i don't have to replace video or pay a fine as money extremely tight at the moment. February is the worst month of the year $$ wise heat wise too, bills wise also, bring on march and some more mula and some cooler days.
There is a green frog somewhere close to my house shouting hooray very loudly over and over again, ok its not exactly hooray its more of a croak noise but im interpreting it as hooray for rain.
Stop babbling and leave these poor people alone sassy! your being very boring and mumsish. So as you can see life is very normal here. love sassy

you know your a mum when.....only human
My boys think the word Fart is so so funny, this is what my life has become
you know your a mum when
you know your a mum when
- you find random bruises on you and have no idea how you got them
- your fridge is covered in alphabet magnets
- your cooking meals made with mince more than once a week
- you have ask the same question 50 different times in slightly different ways and still have no answer
- you consider a peanut butter sandwich as a decent lunch for yourself
- you have unintentionally flashed a boob at a random stranger
- you have glitter on you, you haven't used glitter today (its everywhere)
- you regularly purchase stickers in the hope of bribing your kidlets
- you always have sprinkles in your pantry
- you have had a daily poo / wee conversation
- you need more sleep, you long for sleep, you fantasise about more sleep.
- you hum the tune of sesame street or lion king or Olivia unintentionally
- your fingernails are strained from food colouring
- you have angry birds on your phone
- your facebook update is about how much your kids like to say the word fart (guilty)
- you have wondered this week, what else can i feed them with fish fingers???
- you stop to watch big trucks and diggers
- you go out just to feed ducks
- you are always always running out of bread and milk
- your handbag doubles as an upper body workout

animals behaving badly - only human on humpday
What has been happening here?
I splashed out and got a few more fish for our fish tank, some sward tails, they are really nice. I managed to kill one on the first day, way to go sassy you fish killer. So far so good for all the others though, I panic every time i see one having a nap "oh shit shit shit I've killed another fish, tap glass, phew false alarm its just sleeping" can't wait for my boy to role play that one out at kindy!
Speaking of that sort of thing, Flynn was pulling on some left over decorations (yes i still have xmas decorations outside that need taking down) and as he pulled on the said " get down ya mongrels!" 3 times in a row. Now that's one of my husbands fave naughty words. I know its not that bad but its still not pleasant out of a 4 year old's mouth.
The cat is pregnant too. Id like to wear a sign that has "not my cat not my problem" written on it, but darn it the little minx's leg rubbed her way into my heart a while ago. We talked after we mysteriously lost our last cat, she just vanished. Dh was heartbroken, hes a real animal person. So we made the decision no more pets for a while...2 weeks later i went out of town, he got a cat. I told him to give the kitten back, he told me he would, i knew he wouldn't. I told him the next day, he told me he would, the next day i accepted what i knew would eventually happen, the cat would stay and i bargained for something i wanted done in our crappy reno-house. I got a door on our bedroom yay, he got to keep his boy cat. I got to name the cat, Griffen was chosen. Few months ago we worked out Griffen is a she. I was waiting for dh to get his cat fixed, Griffena did not get taken to vet due to lack of money. (stupid rainy season = no work) and what do you know shes gotten fat. I should have bargained for more than a door right.
love you all thanks for reading smooches from sassy

christmas sewing - only human on humpday
I have been a bit distant with blog world and with facebook because i have been hiding in the air con but also because Ive been madly making Christmas presents for little people. I love Christmas i love giving gifts but with limited dosh Christmas can be a tricky time. So i make some things to boost parcels. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I'm nearly done yay. Now the only reason to have late nights is the sleep resistant 1 year old.
i'm exhausted, hope your Christmas preparations are going well.

going tropo - only human on humpday
image is from http://feeds.feedburner.com/trshowcase
We have bought air con for the bedrooms but we have to wait till fingers crossed this saturday to get them all installed properly...i can't wait till then. Neither could my other half who purchased the loud fan, well he shopped again and this time we got a portable air con. It fits in the window of our bedroom, and our 1 year old is sleeping in our bed till he gets his own air con, my spine is way out of line as i sleep hunched up on the very side of the bed as Eli stretches out between us, we make spell the letter H in human form. Ahhh im not sleeping great but thank goodness little Eli is. Flynn has nick named the portable air con 'r2d2' like the star wars robot, and now the boys fight over turning it on during the day. Sanity only come in the form of hiding in here with a stack of kids books, the ipad. However once the books have run out or the ipad gets fought over one too many times i then become very interesting, i see the thought flash through their eyes, mummy is play equipment, and then im bounced on wrestled with bitten, jumped on tickled poked and squashed. And then its no longer bliss full to be in air con.
I am exhausting every idea i have to get them to play with water, we are doing very little in the middle of the day when its hottest, we are going out and about just to walk around in the shops air conditioned comfort, or the library's. And we are not alone, everyone is hunting coolness at this time of year.
My kids are driving me nuts, because i have no slither of patience left i am not coping with the begging from Flynn and the hundreds of questions or the constant need to be sitting on me. I am not dealing with Eli's constant demands at the fridge, i am happy to feed him, but he yells at me till the food hits his mouth, he has no time to let me prepare anything, he wants it NOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! I am not dealing with the longer time its taking me to get him to sleep for naps and at night, Its like having a hot water bottle on my lap, a wriggly one. But most of all i can not stand that the boys are being snippy with each other, they are also hot and grumpy just like me so they don't want to share nicely and they don't want the other to play with what they saw first.
I tell you i am going crazy. Thankfully my hubby caught me having a pity party for myself the other night when he came home from work and i do feel a lot better. Yesterday i had my mum help all day and evening. Im feeling a lot saner but as i type this i know im still grumpy than usual. Why is it everywhere we go at the moment there is pictures of people in the snow...it should be pictures of santa in budgie smugglers next to a swimming pool with a hat and sunnies and a very large tropical drink. think i might go make one of those right now for myself.....hope your weather isn't sending you batty like me.

10:22 what do i know ? - only human on humpday
![]() |
| Also Flynn has turned into luke skywalker, i am 'dark vader' no point in saying im not, because yes you are mummy your a naughty guy |
| mumma pick me up im sick face. be thankful you can't here the noise |
What else is going on in sassy land? snot fevers and a cough a smoker could be proud to claim. The kiddies are sick, im exhausted, i know how the mother koala feels at the zoo with its babies clinging onto her for dear life. My house that normally looks like a bombs gone off in it looks like its been through the blitz, bombed numerous times and its really to hot to fix it. Don't mention the fact that its messy as i may bite your head off, Tortoise can attests to that. While im at it how come the previous owners of this 'interesting' house never put fly screens in? oh yeah probably the same reason they had mirror tiles in the dinning room and green vinyl wallpaper in the office nook. The Flys are planning on caring me away, i suggested we put up the plastic strip curtain thingies they have in the doorways of your corner stores, he was horrified, so looks like im waging war on the flys solo. Do you think i can turn killing flys with a flyswatter into a game for my kids? that idea has potential, course they will probably end up smacking each other and me with them.
As a side effect of my kids sickness, i have been a little grouchy. So i am trying to take some time for myself and let go a bit more, i have been painting in my studio tonight and yesterday. Re working an old shell painting, and doing a frivolous lyrics painting. Yay for art it helps sooth the cranky beast. I have also been making plans to have fun with friends. Is it wrong to be looking forward to boxing day as much or slightly more than Christmas? photo-playdates, crazy get in touch with the inner child playdate, and shopping trip without my kiddies...yes definitely things to look forward to. Now kids you have been issued with a warning, get better soon, or mummies going to lose her mind waiting to do some fun stuff.
brain failing to work any longer, going to crawl into bed. night night hope your having an interesting and snot free week, and if your husband tells you hes just popping out for a bit, for heavens sake ask what for.

10 things - only human on humpday
10 things about me - you might not know
1. I refuse to drive an automatic car. I enjoy driving, it took me a long time to bother getting my licence, i was 25, i had a patient partner who was a good taxi driver. I was great at public transport, but when we moved back to our home town driving is really the only option. I like manual cars because i am a control freak and they make twisty road so much more fun, we have a few of them in these parts.
2. My birthday falls on the longest night of the year. (in Australia anyway)
3. I confess i am a ranter, i have this invisible button and once pushed i will explode a load of rant.
my children and hubby love pushing this button and seeing mummy go into nuclear overdrive. Kaboom, "oh my god if you don't blah blah then mummy's going to have an aneurysm, i swear I'm just asking for a little bit of help with blah, focus on what I'm saying here, are you listening, oh whats the point no ones every listening I'm just talking to myself again, like a crazy mad woman, man i hope the neighbours are out because the way you lot are making me today, if there listening they are never going to have babies. have you done blah yet, no, are you for real, here just give it to me ill do it...again, its like you all think I'm super woman" kinda the gist of it.
So please stand back and pop on your safety vests when the rant button is pushed or you may get caught in the cross fire as I'm bringing up little ranters who are starting to rant back. You should know too that my ranting doesn't bother them most of the time they really just tune out, put up their invisible umbrellas and repel the flying rants.
4. I don't eat meat, yes I'm a veggie, i like eating vegetables, there are a lot more foods out in the world besides meat. Sadly when people discover I'm a veggie they like to interrogate my choice of being a non meat eater and they like to know exactly what i will and wont eat. I don't get why people are that interested in my diet but i guess they are fascinated in my reasoning. It is fairly simple i couldn't kill animals to eat them & most importantly it made me very sick when younger so i gave it up. I have never looked back, i don't miss meat at all. It is no longer trendy to be a vegetarian thankfully so at least people have stopped thinking I'm doing it to be cool. I get a lot of people ask how do i live with someone who eats meat, my husband is lucky i can cook meat and whilst i use more frying pans than most people, no one pot wonders in this house. It works fine, my kids eat meat with gusto and as yet they haven't noticed that I'm eating something slightly different. A friend who is also a veggie told her kids that not everyone likes to eat tomatoes, mummy doesn't like to eat meat, and they are cool with that. If you discover someone you know is a vegetarian, what ever you do, don't try to convert them back to eating meat, its rude and its nothing we haven't herd a thousand times.
5. I can roll my tongue, this is a genetic thing you either can or you cant.
6. I re-read books that i love again and again and again, some of my fave books have been read 5 or 6 times. My Hubby thinks this is a bit odd but i love reading, and even if i know the ending i still enjoy the ride. Mostly its the classics but there is a few modern books in this mix too. Once i find an author i like i search out every book they have written and read until i overdose and need to give them a break for a while, but generally a year or two later i re-visit the favourite one. I even read some of my childhood books, like Anne of green gables and some of Roald Dahl stuff. Bookworm i am!
7. I have been a donkey voter, have you?
8. I like to mimic voices, as in different accents. If i listen to a particular accent for any length of time with not too much practise I'm able to sound a lot like it. This is a family thing and most of my family members are great mimics. Very useful when learning languages.
9. I had my baby boys via c section. and one day i will probably write a post on why, but not today.
| pink hair was really fun, lots of strangers would comment on it for good and bad. People even crossed the street to avoid me a few times! Its amazing how looks influence people. |
10. I have an extremely low boredom threshold when it comes to my hair, i have been many many colours, chopped it very very short, grown it so many times only to chop again, streaked, foiled, straightened as its naturally curly. Fringe, no fringe, currently with fringe. Thankfully my husband seems to enjoy the different versions of me so that's ok. I've never had blue hair, maybe i could get some little clip in streaks for my Christmas stocking, must buy myself a stocking for that matter!
now you all know too much about me ill say see you soon, love sassy

Kindy Open Day - Only human on humpday
Flynn turns four soon, very soon, and next year he goes to kindy 3 days a week. Until now hes been mine, all the time, hes never been in daycare. I do have a relaxed kid swap with a mate, i take her boy one day a week and another day she has Flynn. But as i said its relaxed and its only for a couple of hours. So kindy seems like a big deal its a real step of Independence for him. I am super excited for him as i know hes a very sociable little fellow (chatterbox) and he need the stimulation for his active mind. I also have the very normal mummy feelings of loss when i think about him going off to kindy, and that from hear on in other people will have some influence over him and his thinking. My house will be eerily devoid of chatter when hes not around, Eli is fairly noisy but is not the questions and chit chat of Flynn. I look forward to giving Eli a bit more 1 on 1 time, but i think hes going to miss his brother too.
I console myself that the kindy I'm sending him too is lovely, really really lovely. It had an open week this week where we could go and hang out and Flynn could get a taste of kindy. He was concerned that i would be leaving him, battles i can see i will face next year, but after a few mins he was lit up inside by the possibilities. So many things to do, so many toys, so many children to play with and class pets too. He painted, played blocks, play dough, watched the fish and spent ages observing the two mice. He ran around the playground the two massive shade trees and took in as much as his little eyes could handle. He loved it, we were only there for 1 hour and a half perhaps 2 hours, he did not want to leave. The teachers are really nice very friendly and went out of their way to go over a few things with us about next year. I think Eli wants to go to kindy too, he was just as busy as Flynn while we were there.
I have a few thoughts jumping around my head about the start of kindy, again its just normal mum stuff...how will i get him there on time, I'm always late for everything these days....i hope we get enough work to pay kindy fees....I have no freaking idea how to handle the lunch box thing, what do i send for my somewhat fussy eater....must make a list of all the kindy supplies he will need....crap what is it going to be like when i have school lists to buy? ..... must get name labels that don't wash off, must ask mummy friends about general label of stuff advise....must go over all kindy info with hubby, must therefore sit down with hubby and talk ! that is very difficult at the moment..... I can't believe hes been here on this earth for four years, what will life bring in the next four year?
I would love to get any tips about how to handle drop offs, i know my son this will be tricky for first few weeks, also lunch box food ideas. and if anyone has starting school, daycare, kindy stories they want to shear I'm totally listening x x x sassy

I heart Black and White photography - only human on humpday
Take time out to be you!
Hey photography was the thing I wanted to major in at art school when I went. I ended up taking a different path when I got into my course, but I still love photography. Yesterday I took some time for me, I went around my backyard and fooled around with my digital camera on the manual settings changing iso and so froth, working in the monochrome setting, to see if i still had an eye for it. I think my photography eye is a little rusty but I really really enjoyed thinking about what was around me that would be good for a black and white shot. Taking photos is something that I do all the time, I think I'm going to shoot more in manual and less in auto from now on, providing I'm not too mummy brain fried.
I welcome critique on these x sassy

Only Human on Humpday
Ok this is a new idea for my blog, on the need to hold my identity as a woman and not just a mum I want to write about some of the obstacles I face and how I face them. Sometime this will be deep and meaningful and other times it will be fun and light just depending on what challenges life is presenting me.
Today I want to talk about dyslexia something I face every day and it impacts mostly in little ways but occasionally it can really get me down. So what is dyslexia? most people know it’s a learning problem but not much more. So it’s a learning difficulty with pattern sequencing that mainly affects writing and can affect reading too. It took me ages to learn to tell the time, I found simple addition, times tables things like that a struggle. People have no idea I have this learning issue until I tell them, which is great, I have learnt to manage it but I struggled with it as a child. I did not know I had dyslexia until my late teens, I thought I just wasn’t good at basic things. It was eventually a fantastic teacher who recommended I seek help and have myself tested because he noticed I could grasp really complex concepts quickly and learnt new complicated Latin words but was getting words like control and does wrong. Generally you can always understand what I write as my mistakes are fairly phonetic. I apologise for any spelling errors I make in this blog you must understand sometimes they are typos but mostly they are mistakes and I have no idea I have made them, even if I re read what I’ve written I will not recognise the mistake because my major problem is with sequencing, if I first learnt the pattern of the words wrong then that is how it has stayed in my brain forevermore.
When I was tested I discovered a few things, that dyslexic people are generally very intelligent but they have one area that has a glitch, I have a glitch with patterns but otherwise I did great on the tests. Relief was huge for me, I got the validation I needed I wasn’t stupid as I sometime thought, I had a problem something different to most people. School had been so painful at times when I had spent hours and hours trying to learn spelling only to score 1 or 2 out of 30. One teacher told my mum I must have sight problems that I wasn’t seeing the black board properly; I was disappointed to discover my eyes were fine and the cool pink flowery glasses I had admired at the optometrist would not be mine. Mum took me during one school holiday to a spelling school, they had some great techniques and we both worked so hard but no pay off, I still couldn’t spell. So yeah to find out I had dyslexia was fantastic, not a dummy a dyslexic. A word by the way I struggle to spell cruel and kind of funny isn’t it. I was given extra time in exams at school to spell check and re-read my work (I read slower than the average person too) I was allowed to take in an electronic spell checker and so long as the teachers and examiners could follow what I was writing then I wasn’t marked down in papers for spelling errors.
I have come to discover a bit more about my dyslexia, I read in an art book, “drawing on the right side of the brain” that unlike most people who switch from one side of the brain to the other that dyslexic people are using both side simultaneously, now that’s cool. It explains why I think in pictures, everything is visual to me because my brain has slightly different wiring system to other people. I remember being in English class in year 12 and the teacher asking who was reading the novel we were studying and seeing the story as they read, like a movie, and I was surprised when I was the only student to raise a hand. What the hell was that book like for everyone else, I have no idea must have been boring. Up until that moment I was under the impression that everyone thought in pictures. People learn differently and we all favour one way of learning above others, there are seven different ways of learning.
To discover more about learning styles check out this link, learning styles online, who's chart this is.
So how does this impact me as an adult? well sometimes it has impacted my work, I worked as a bank teller for a while and whilst I was quite good at the job I felt pressure because I was slow with maths, accurate but slow, because I wrote everything down you could always track what I had done but when I took over balancing the safe I found when it didn’t balance horrifically stressful and any mistakes would take me ages to follow up on and so in the end I changed jobs. It impacted me when I went to name my children some names are just off the list because I could never spell them, like Michael, John and Michelle thankfully these aren’t my style. I have thought I need to start teaching Flynn to read, hmm tricky, I have to be super careful now when I write in front of him as I’d hate for him to learn the words incorrectly off me. I am fearful that my children may have the same learning issues as me, but at least I know to look for signs and I know there are ways of helping dyslexic kids learn. Most of all any troubles they have with school work I will be sympathetic, and they have dad who can step who is an excellent speller and mathematician.
If you want to know more about identifying dyslexia in children go to netplaces, parenting children with dyslexia
If you want some tips on teaching Dyslexic children try some of these, I think this is great reading tips for any child, Dyslexia Parent
If you’re wondering yes I sometimes write letters backwards, especially when really tired. Yes I love, adore, to read it never put me off. Yes it’s possible to do well in school and university despite being dyslexic. And yes you do know of dyslexic people, Walt Disney, Tom Cruise (no it doesn’t explain couch jumping or weird religious tendencies), Whoopi Goldberg, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Cher, Richard Branson and Pablo Picasso just to name a few.
to conclude, thank god for spell check, always write phone numbers down for me or I'll program it into my phone wrong and if you think your child is dyslexic get them tested!!! now i think I'm going to have a cup of coffee.
