balloon tent - tresure

I am not in the greatest mood today but i don't want my mood to contaminate the boys so i came up with this for Eli. This is a simple but sweet idea, its perfect for my 1 year old. I have a play tent (if you don't have one a fort made from blankets would work great too) i filled it with a packet of balloons. The balloons weren't filled up heaps to conserve my breath, a packet can give you a bit of a head spin its a lot of puffing. I confess i was checking face book while blowing them up.

 Eli sat in the tent while i shoved more and more balloons through the little doors. Giggles, bit of clapping and a lot of 'ha ballloooon' from Eli. He sat there for a while with a very content smile on his face, he also had a lollipop as a reward, we had just got home from his swimming class, and so he thought he was the cat that had got the cream.

I reminded him that you can bat balloons into the air, he then went a bit bonkers, scattering balloons every where stomping on them (falling over) and lastly leaping into the tent, adrenalin junkie with no regard for his own safety tile floors are not your friend little guy. Sweet and simple, in a few days time I'm going to ind sad shrivelled floppy fish balloons everywhere. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend love sassy .

Hovercraft

Hovercraft.

I got this idea from MOTAT in Auckland, Ministry of transport and technology or something like that. http://www.motat.org.nz/

Synchronicity was I had made them at home then saw them same day on t.v. and its been a year since i first saw them at MOTAT. I wonder why they came up twice in one day, then i thought i should share the idea also its so simple.

You need a pump style water bottle lid, a cd stack plastic cd or a record, some blue tak or glue. and balloon and a clear surface like a table or bench top.

When you buy a whole lot of cdr the first cd in the stack is just a plastic one these are perfect.

Attach the pump water bottle lid to the middle of plastic cd or record over the centre hole with glue or blue tak make sure its air tight. Close the lid. Blow up a balloon attach it over the lid, then pull up your lid opening and tap the hovercraft in the direction you want it to go, the escaping air will propel your craft.

You can even race them.

you could try cardboard if you have no record or plastic cd but it needs a hole in the middle. I wonder if a cd would work it might be too heavy.

Such a simple hovercraft - i might try it in the bath today or the paddling pool instead of the bench.

sassy scribble friday

In this scribble I was thinking about the balloon play this week and my wedding anniversary today .

Dinosaurs eggs go POP

 

To make your own dino eggs,  pull back a balloon with fingers, insert tiny plastic dinosaur. This is a bit tricky and did make me smirk as it kinda conjures up sex ed classes from high school. Put end of balloon over the tap and fill with water, take off tap, tie a knot and voila a dinosaur egg ready to hatch or rather pop. If you hold them up to the light you can see the dino baby inside. I gave Flynn a big bowl full, but it wasn't enough he demanded more and then some more. Good fun for a sunny day.

balloon play idea

A great little play idea, I have never met a kid that didn’t like balloons and when I need a sanity moment like I did this Sunday this is one way I occupy the littlies. I blow up a dozen balloons tie a length of string to each one and masking tape them just above a doorway. Kiddies can whack them, run through them, look through them and I got Flynn to find different colours and count how many he could find in that colour. I blew some big and some small and I got Flynn to find different sizes too. It was perfect little game for Eli who has just started to walk he loved being able to grab the balloons and bash them. When the interest in the balloons began to dissipate I got out some office supply stickers and the sticky tape, Flynn made faces and Eli peeled stickers (he tried to eat some too).  After they finished I moved them to Flynn’s bedroom and he can have a pretend birthday party with some toys later in the week.  When bath time rocked around Flynn asked if he could take a balloon in the bath, they had a lovely time holding the balloons under the water and releasing them with a whoosh. Last year Flynn had an emergency trip to the doctor when his eye swelled up due to an allergic reaction to something, he was very very sad that his eye was “broken” and to cheer him up I filled his bed with balloons he thought this was fantastic it cheered him up immensely. I often have a balloon or two stashed in my purse for emergency play moment if you get stuck somewhere waiting they are a sanity saver. I love simple classic play things.
